Shannon's Personal PN Story Line

I went to the podiatrist in April 2003, because I was having problems with my calves and feet. My feet always felt cold and my calves hurt. The podiatrist said that I had restless leg syndrome, so he gave me maripex. I went back about a month later and it was worse. He then started having me take neurontin and I had so many tests run that I was sick of the Dr.'s and having my blood taken. I went through this for a year before it was narrowed down to neuropathy.

I went all the way up to 3600mg of neurontin and then started taking ultram for the pain. My feet were so frozen they felt like frost bite inside, but they where not cold to the touch. My calves ached so bad that it put me into tears quite often. I could only do so much housework or walk so much before I was in so much pain. I went to the Dr.'s every month for a year. My Dr. said that I had the worst case of neuropathy he had ever seen not being diabetic. And how I got this disease is unknown.

On May 27, 2004 I had decompression surgery on my tarsal tunnel and peroneal. The surgery took 73 min. My Dr. said that when he opened my calf up that my nerve was completely yellow and dull looking. Your nerve should be a grayish color and shinny looking.

Since my surgery I have felt things in my leg and foot I have not felt in over a year, such as tingling, warm sensations and the chills.

It will take time to see how I will be, but it was well worth going through it. Now most of my foot is numb with very little sensations, but does not mean it will stay. My recovery since the surgery has been slow and very painful, but if it does work I will be having the other leg done as soon as I am completely recovered from this leg now.
