by Stowe, Harriet Beecher (read by Nicholas, Rebecca)
An insightful book, though sometimes preachy. The musings of St. Claire, a benevolently confused "massa" in New Orleans, are very much pertinent even today. This book's reader, R. Nicholas, is excellent - makes it sound like a radio play.

by Faulkner, William (read by Kandinsky, Wolfram)
At times, this was hard to endure. (I'm convinced one shouldn't 'listen' to William Faulkner, but, instead, read from printed text because of the long sentence strings.) Faulkner's descriptions, however, are an art form.

by Forster, E. M. (read by Reading, Kate)
"Just below the surface of everyday life crouches the menace of misunderstanding. A common one springs up, then explodes into a riot as cultures clash in the turn-of-the-century British India." I agree with the Indians - the Brits are pigs.

by Steinbeck, John (read by Keenan, Michael)
"In the California apple country, 900 migratory workers rise up 'in dubious battle' against the landowners." A pretty good story about white trash trying to become noble.

by Eliot, George (read by Case, David)
"In the novel that Alexandre Dumas called 'the masterpiece of the century', three unworldly people find themselves trapped by unwise love in the English Midlands of the early 1800s." Rich-guy, poor-guy, Victorian stuff.

by Hemingway, Ernest (read by Adams, Alexander)
"Death of ideals in the Spanish Civil War..." through the eyes of a guerilla soldier troup.
